How to access research & development funding in Canada

Do you spend too much of your time searching for investors or trying to get government funding – instead of spending time to better serve your current clients, grow your business and increase your bottom line? Looking for and accessing continued R&D (Research & Development) funding is a common challenge in any industry – but imagine the satisfaction of being able to take your initial investment and get between 40% and 60% of it back!

The Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) program

The Canadian government offers great financial incentives for R&D that leads to a new technology, a new product, or the improvement of an existing process. The Scientific Research & Experimental Development Program allows small- to medium-sized companies to get significant tax refunds and credits every year. Unfortunately, you can imagine that applying is not as easy or as straightforward as we would like.

The Felix SR&ED team of professionals are experts at working with the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency, who administers the SR&ED program) to help businesses navigate this often tedious and complex process. Our team consists of experienced PhD graduates who have demonstrated over the years how to write clear and compelling proposals to the CRA. Most importantly, these proposals are highly accurate and meet all CRA standards and submission guidelines. We launched our company in 2015, and since then have built strong client relationships based on trust, performance and expertise gained in many fields of research and across several key industries.

The CanExport Funding Program

Having become successful at preparing and filing the required financial and technical documentations for the SR&ED Program, we also decided in 2020 to help our clients get CanExport funding. This program helps Canadian SMEs (small- and medium-sized enterprises) establish a presence in international markets where they currently have little or no sales. Through this government program, small- and medium-sized companies can access up to $50,000 in funding to assist with their international market development activities. The program covers up to 50% of a company’s costs for export marketing of products and services in international markets where there is currently little or no sales.

A history of success across several industries – including the printing sector

We have already helped several businesses across many industries successfully navigate these lucrative programs to raise capital quickly. These sectors include:

• The printing industry

• The pulp & paper industry

• Industrial manufacturing

• Information technology

• The life sciences industry

• The food industry

If you’re wondering how to apply to access these helpful programs and get quick results, we can definitely help. Felix SR&ED offers a free consultation to assess your projects’ eligibility requirements as required by the CRA. We can also evaluate when you can apply, and the amount of funds you could get back (through the SR&ED program) or be awarded (through the CanExport Program). I look forward to helping you – especially now, when we’re finally emerging from this exhausting pandemic.
